YIKES!!!!! Last Day of Summer

Sooo many things I want to learn, I have only scratched the surface.

I have spent some time learning "Scratch for Second Life" an easy to use scripting program for object movement and characteristics. I have also been playing with "Audacity" to capture sounds and bring in world.

I am amazed at the non-SL Scratch website, and what the MIT "Lifelong Kindergarten" group is doing. These are lucky kids, when learning is play. Why we cannot ramp up the use of technology in my school district is beyond me. We just play the game of test scores and teach to the FCAT.

More SL Jewelry

I have been busy this morning... I love the multi-gem necklace I made :))))) It took me so long to line up the skinny arcs... being a bent torus it moves in unpredictable ways!

Zyngo

Since this blog is about what I am doing in Second Life, how could it be complete without me talking about Zyngo. It supposedly is not gambling, which is illegal in SL. It is considered a game of skill. When the machines first came to Hedo a couple weeks ago, I was making 1200-1500 L a day. Now I am on a losing streak, losing 200-300 L a day. Makes me wonder if they are programmed in some way to prevent one person from continually winning.

Learning Building in Second Life

This picture, shows how SL can stretch one's imagination, even if you are not into science fiction and some of the elaborate role playing that can be found here. Because I can fly, I have a rooftop patio, for shooting fireworks or watching sunrises and sunsets. I also have a retractable roof over my bed for star gazing, or literally flying out of bed.

I have spent a large portion of this past year learning building (3-D modeling) and I am starting to dabble in scripting (giving these objects movement, sound, change, etc.). I was never a math person so understanding some of the geometry and how objects are described has been a learning experience. The classes in SL have helped enormously. I still don't understand how a torus in 8 twists can become a gem shape, but I have created many pieces of SL jewelry. I also do not fully understand Sculpty shapes, but I am able to use the free set of prims that are available. I have also played a little this summer with PhotoShop.

In the pictures, below, are some shots of my home in my mind's eye of SL. The batik on wall of the living room, was made from a photo of the one I have in RL. The coffee table is a replica of my RL one, which I designed and a friend constructed. I made just about everything in the house. The fish tanks are 7Seas. My pet tiger, Mala, is AI, and made by Zooby's. The Alienware laptops, are made by Rujeys Clary from Brussels, and actually connect to the internet.

The Who in SL 7/20/2008

The Who - virtual concerts in SL

That's me on the stage dancing with Roger Daltry (in the red and white striped shirt) last night. Bryan Adams made a guest appearance, too. I guess the popularity of Guitar Hero and Rock Band has spawned these role playing concerts in SL. They are a blast, lots of special effects and energy. I have seen U2 three times, The Stones, Led Zeppelin, Queen, and Phil Collins. Maybe I can start my own band, I want to be Blondie.....LOL.
