Winter Burn is Coming To Burn2

WINTER GARDENS AT WINTER BURN 2026

 January 23 through the 25th

The Playa has put on its winter costume. A soft dusting of snow settles in, and ice crystals wink and glitter like they’re fallen sequins. Into this frosty wonderland, Burners are gifted glass greenhouses—each one a blank immersive life-size terrarium waiting to come alive.

Together they grow into a village of lush, glowing huts, fogged windows and warm light spilling out. Step inside one and you might find yourself in a tropical daydream, leaves brushing your shoulders, steam floating up to the ceiling, the cold wind outside disappears. Step into another and—surprise!—the vents are open, snow drifts in, plants are wearing powdered-sugar hats and water on the floor becomes a shimmery icy pond.

No two huts are alike, because no two Burners are. Every greenhouse is an act of playful self-expression, lovingly built, shared, and tended by the community that surrounds it. And no one just passes through—everyone participates.

Each host offers a small gift to wandering visitors: perhaps a cup of coffee warm enough to thaw fingers, a cookie pressed into your hand, a snow cone that somehow makes sense because it is rainbow colored. Maybe there's a bar serving special drinks with a cozy lounge. These are invitations—to come in, to linger, to chat, to be present for a moment.

Stay a while. Warm up. Marvel. The stages, the Effigy, ice rink, art cars, and paths through the beauty of snow and ice will lure us back outside to explore, dance, and play. This village will melt away, leaving behind only footprints, memories, and a smile you didn’t expect. This is your chance to create a space at Burn2 that's filled with verdant vegetation amidst a frozen desert.

Don't miss out, reserve your free plot today. (Requests are taken starting on Sunday, December 21st)

Outdoor Art Plots are available too, but will be in compliance with the usual Playa Aesthetics.

Special Acoustic Event and the Winter Burn - This Weekend!

Winter Burn 2021: Bubble Gum & Duct Tape

With Winter Burn, we welcome 2021 buoyed by a measure of hope and optimism, perhaps with a touch of caution. The Ten Principles serve as our framework for how we want to live and do things together. We chose a theme: Bubble Gum & Duct Tape.

When you ponder this theme, think about what makes things stick together, if it helps. Love, support, respect, chain, a guy rope, tie, wire, clasp, screws, nails, bandage, cord, harness ... and of course, Bubble Gum and Duct Tape. Basically, think outside of the box, beyond bubble gum & duct tape.

Life has begun to stir on the virtual playa. Trucks are hauling in the prims needed for infrastructure and various builds. Interesting creations are sprouting up out of the frosty dust. Performers are booking their slots for the stages. Preparations are well under way!

The event opens on the 29th of January at 5:00 PM SLT, when the Lamplighters will arrive with their usual fiery enthusiasm for a walk-on. Everyone is welcome to walk along on a tour of the art installations and camps until finally arriving at the Main Stage. Lamplighters love to let loose a little fire to properly start things off, and start they do with music and much dancing!

AND on Thursday, January 28th...

All proceeds from this event will benefit Burn2, which is a nonprofit regional of Burning Man.

Burn2 - The Multiverse

Some memories - October 2020. My Build; "No Planet B". You are invited to hold the poem, "Remember" and take the wormhole teleport up into the Earth to read. The Earth appears on fire and the bottom is gone. Chaos appears to to be the message. But inside the Earth you sit in quite with the sounds of nature, the smell of the forest, and digest the poem. You see in the corner of the universe, there is a piece that you call home:)

Remember
by Joy Harjo
l

Remember the sky that you were born under,
know each of the star’s stories.
Remember the moon, know who she is.

Remember the sun’s birth at dawn, that is the
strongest point of time.

Remember sundown
and the giving away tonight.

Remember your birth, how your mother struggled
to give you form and breath. You are evidence of
her life, and her mother’s, and hers.

Remember your father. He is your life, also.

Remember the earth whose skin you are:
red earth, black earth, yellow earth, white earth
brown earth, we are earth.

Remember the plants, trees, animal life who all have their
tribes, their families, their histories, too. Talk to them,
listen to them. They are alive poems.

Remember the wind. Remember her voice. She knows the
origin of this universe.

Remember you are all people and all people
are you.

Remember you are this universe and this
universe is you.

Remember all is in motion, is growing, is you.

Remember language comes from this.

Remember the dance language is, that life is.

Remember.

I Robot at Burn2 - Opening Today!

BURN2:  I, Robot

Opening 10:00am SLT, Saturday, 19 October 2018

Ending Midnight SLT, Sunday, 28 October 2018

As we do every year, we invited artists and creatives to get their plots to create homes

and art installations in this virtual temporary city on five sims, with a challenge to build to

a science fiction flavoured theme, “I, Robot,” within the framework of the Ten Principles

of Burning Man and a set of build guidelines.

The response from the community has been marvelously varied. Some are built around

the Three Laws of Robotics as set out by Isaac Asimov. Others explore ideas about the

relationship between humans and AI, or express very real fears and doubts about the

future. There are still others that are simply funny and fun to explore. And not the least

among these are the simple camps for those who want to merely sit a spell, relax and

soak in the tunes in the air.

This year, we invite you to experience art that examines how it feels to live in a world

filled with robots. When you step foot onto the dusty playa, you are no longer a mere

bystander but a part of the spectacle that is I, Robot.

Burn2 Coming Soon- Sneak Peek

Coming October 19, is the annual Burn2 event. Burning Man was the spark that gave Philip Rosedale, the founder of Second Life, the idea for its creation. Burn2 (during its first years was known as Burning Life) is Burning Man in Second Life, it is a recognized regional of Burning Man. This year's theme is, "I Robot", as was the theme in Nevada last month.

These are a couple pics of my build, "Resistance Is Fertile". This is a play on The Borg's insistence that "Resistance is Futile".  It is representative of the thought of current politics of The Resistance in the U.S., women's insurgence, and a return to our natural and feminine power and place in the world.

Just a peek:) No links yet, the building areas are closed to non-builders. HOWEVER, there are a few plots left, so snap one of them up here , at the main region, open to the public.

Burn2.. My Build in Progress for The Da Vinci Workshop

My build, "Transformation by the 5th Element", is an exploration of several Renaissance references; Da Vinci and Shakespeare most notably. I've added  influences by the Renaissance discoveries (and rediscoveries) of knowledge bases both classical and contemporary to that time.

In my build, The Renaissance "Man" is fueled by the "quintessential dust" (the 5th Element) to be transformed to the higher level of being... woman.

"Man delights not me; no, nor Woman neither; though by your smiling you seem to say so" - Wm Shakespeare

Come PLAY!, participate, and enjoy! There are still parcels to build upon, and we want performer talent to apply. More info here at the Burn2 website, and the performance applications are here
