I don't remember how I stumbled upon this ebook , "Your Clothing is Still Downloading", a novel set in and about SL/RL, but I'm fairly hooked 30 or so pages into it. (currently a free download) There are quite a few good insights about avatar identity and how we share this metaverse. I am intrigued by Huckleberry Hax's grasp on the intimacy of thought and being that can be shared among avatars.

Yes, this is my den, I'm reading for a change. It is a very personal space with pictures from over the years in SL and objects of meaning on the shelves, tucked under the stairs. (and aside, the bad rezzing of plants in the new Phoenix viewer - I must click on each one to correct - please fix)

I went home to be sure I could still squeeze into those tights.

Back on the Playa, I took a stroll Rangering, and Lo! it was Puterdoc sporting a tutu. He was acting so nonchalant, like, what lag? (not a normal for a comment from a putergeek).

Here I am waiting in a deck chair in front of my build/camp, The Kiva. I still have some tweaking to do, but worked on a gift this morning for the Schwag Department, tent of gifts. Beware - Schwag does rhyme with lag. My FireFlower bracelet has animated textures.

My camp does have a huge couch which anyone can crash out on. Syn and I enjoy the fire on my version of a big blue couch.

It's exciting to watch the building and tweaking going on for Burn2. My couch includes some jumping animations, so appropriate for my camp address, Kindergarten and 7:30! cya on the Playa!

My Digits

I thought that I would add my digits. I find it interesting how different people idealize/exaggerate one body feature over another. It is what the ancient Romans discovered when they began to make their idealized sculptures of the human body. They discovered mathematical formulas for proportions of the human body that do not really exist, even in the fittest of individuals. But, they are pleasing to the eye.

It is especially intriguing in light of (the far too many) women who have a poor body image in RL. There are so many avatars with impossibly small waists, and distorted hips and butts, or boobs that could only be achieved if the entire body was 200x overweight. I've also seen quite a few avatars that are incredibly skinny. We do know from research on people's experience with their avatars in virtual worlds that many people become strongly attached and identify with their avatars. So, I wonder if there are, and if so, what are the effects of living a virtual life in an unrealistic body?

My summer break will soon be be over, and I did get to create tons of stuff, both in RL an SL. My RL class in copper expanded my views on that metal and it's lovely hues. Love the warmth from fire patinas.

Along those same lines, I worked on my Burning Life Ranger Gift (now BurningMan 2.0). I am very pleased, gotta look close for the metro (skyline) textures.

This is titiled "DesertFire" and a free gift at the Ranger Station, on the Playa.

Can't wait for the fire.

I think this is done by rolling textures on the "mirrors". Never can I get my reflection, nor an up and down, but amazingly cleaver. Kudos to the creator, Sextan Shepard, utterly awesome! I spent a couple hours at this sim, and I WILL go back to Nemo and tip.

I Designed My Real Life Lighting 1st in Second Life

I have been working on a kitchen remodel in RL. The lighting over the sink peninsula was was a real problem in design. I want the pendants to hang parallel. If you look at the picture from the manufacturer, (LBL Lighting), 2 of the pendants are not on the rail system, but direct wired to a ceiling fixture.

Although you cannot see, I built the counters according to the measurements in RL. The sink is off center. I played with curves until I found what worked with the length and width of the counter, and on a grid, it was easy to see where the alignment of the 3 pendants worked out. I was ready for new lighting in my SL home, so I built it! Below are the results. I ended up using a rusty corroded metal texture to simulate the "Jelly" pendant. I know there is a mathematical way of figuring this out, but I hardly remember to try to use circles radii, let alone arcs. The rail pieces ended up being sections of a circles stretched and cut until I got it!

Coco has the best freebies (join group). When I was opening the boxes, WOW! after WOW! All things are mod/copy, clothes on every layer! I love this turtle neck and belt (both free). Last night I went to the final night of my dear friend Bubuk DJing at her newly sold U2 Club. I had a great time, danced for 3 hours, digging the way all my fringe moved with the music. I woke up this morning still in the outfit I put together. I am sipping my coffee paging though iheartsl.com on my Google Reader, and I am suddenly struck with the realization why I seldom post there. I cannot often replicate my own outfits!

Obsessed with Shadows

It takes endless fussing to get shadows laid on uneven terrain..... but oh so worth the effort. I replaced most of my palms with 2 prims for 8 palms from T, Cleonae and Tobias Novi; slurl here. The packages includes shimmering (shake) movement in the shadows. By taking out my old palms I gained over 400 prims. ... and then I added shadows to my other landscape.... and some nature sounds in the rocks... and it is almost paradise.

The top photo is my tweeked windlight settings. The middle is Caliah Lyon's blogged on several blogs, and some stores are handing out links to get it. The bottom is the Wind Light default. Mid-day light is entirely washed out in Caliah's. Sunrise seemed to show her's the best, but I like mine better! Maybe her's is for ambient lights for photography...
